Blog Post: Make connections between society and BNW (book + film). What’s eerily correct? Where is Huxley way off track? What do you think about this book/film thus far?
What long has it been since we have been talking about all those recession and bad economic sutff?
Whenever we think “Maybe we have past it now,” we face another news that reminds us of that our economy is still beaten up pretty badly. It will require some time for it to recover.
H&M’s recent launching in Korea was a big issue.
I guess it was a good news for people in Korea considering our state of economy.
Of course, there are areas of weaknesses in their products compared to those of high price and quality brands, but fast fashion brands are quite attractive considering their design and price.
The profit of Forever 21, another leader of fast fashion in Korea, increased 35% last year, reaching 26.4 billion won.
According to a research done by a Korean fashion company, average allowance of Korean teenagers in 2009 was 73000 KRW. I was surprised to hear that it was the lowest value in 20 years. These kind of factors are globally influencing the consumers to use relatively cheap fashion brands such as H&M, Forever 21 and Topshop.
There are preditions that profits of major malls in Korea will decrease for the first time in 14 years and Topshop will open its first store in a few years.
Fast fashion will remain popular with current trends of consumer. They are redeeming once again with cheap and trendy items with better quality and different campaigns. They have even influeced designer brands that they influenced the creation of mid-season collection shows. Their future plans and movements will bring a lot of attentions with the amount of influence that they are having right now.

Well, to be really honest, I am not a big fan of comparing books and movies made from the books; books are always better for some reason. What I have noticed is that a lot of the times, the directors disappoint me by not following the book closely. However, I can’t deny the fact that movies can be much more exciting with vivid visuals(and of course hot actors… YES). Well, it was the same for Dracula.
I watched first 20-30 minutes of Drucula(1912) and Dracula(1992). However, I will mainly focus on comparing the book and the 1992 version of the movie.
Oftentimes, numerous details on the book are curtailed and cut down in the movie. I have noticed this in the movie Dracula as well; they cut the whole scene out where the local people warn him and talk among themselves into a brtef scene where a lady gives Renfield a cross. Wait, Renfield? Do you mean Harker? NO
It is indeed Renfield. As I have said, they just can’t keep it as it is. : /
Well, although they replaced Harker as Renfield, they kept the same concept of a innocent, benign man.
What I have noticed as I watched both versions of the film(1931 and 1992) was that the latter one was much more dramatic. It also had a whole new opening scene where it explains why and how Dracula became a vampire. It was really interesting, especially with all blood and symbolism in it. I was also surprised to see how Lucy is portrayed; she was far from a young, innocent woman I have imagined. Well, I felt that it was quite ironic that Mina calls her “nice and pure” that it almost sounded sarcastic when she said it. Personally, I liked the 1992 version much better because it was much more interesting to watch.
In both films, there was an Count’s shadow and its role was very interesting. Especially in the 1931 version, the shadow seemed to represent Dracula’s inner feelings and desires; it lurked into Mina’s photo and almost chocked Harker’s neck. This made the movie more horrifying.
I guess the movie has its own pros and cons. Although I prefer the book better, I believe that movies are very enjoyable and very much worth watching them.
